WHERE IS IT?
Sedona, Arizona, is about 30 miles south of Flagstaff and is surrounded by 1.8 million acres of national forest land, four wilderness areas and two state parks.
WHEN TO GO
Watch out for the hot summer months. Parking for the more popular trail heads is a challenge on weekends. Ask at local bike shops for tips on getting the best experience.
The area above—the Broken Arrow Trail—appears in a lot of famous Westerns, including several John Wayne films.
This year, more family-friendly trails are opening up. At 2.2 miles, Long Canyon Trail to Deadman’s Flat Trail is a great ride for beginners. For more information on top-rated trails, visit tinyurl.com/qs2a2yh.
WHAT YOU NEED
Bring your own bike, safety equipment, water and snacks, or rent from local shops, which accommodate all skill levels. Bike thefts do occur, so remember to bring a lock.
