In a nod to Father’s Day, let us have a little pun and celebrate dad jokes. We know in your heart of hearts, despite the eye roll, you truly love them. Right?
No one is sure when the term dad joke became a thing, but a Gettysburg Times writer—a hero to dads everywhere—wrote in passionate defense of pure cheesiness on Father’s Day 1987. His may be the first recorded use of a phrase now so familiar it was added to Webster’s Dictionary in 2019.
For dads, it is about finding our porpoise as we tell jokes or do wordplay that is so bad it is actually good.
Doesn’t the world need more cornball humor and good cheer (don’t answer, moms)? With the answer so obvious to dads everywhere, we invite you gents to go out on a limb, branch out and leaf us in laughter with your best dad jokes. We will immortalize some online.
This will get those creative juices flowing: Can February March? No, but April May!
Leon Espinoza, vice president of content for our publications, is our chief punster—although he has plenty of company from the other dads on our staff. Please give them new material by sharing your best dad joke or pun. Send your submission to dadjokes@pur.coop.
